ProxyConn Web Accelerator
The ProxyConn Web Accelerator can speed up web surfing and downloading from web and ftp servers over the Internet from a dialup account. It does this in a couple of ways: (1) it compresses web pages and photos and (2) it allows downloads to begin again where they left off. The latter is important for dial-up users because web servers and ftp servers can time-out the downloading of large files - it is usually a default setting on the web or ftp server. By restarting the download where it left off, downloads of large files can be completed.
The ProxyConn Web Accelerator can also help protect your computer from spyware. A recent study found that 1 out of every 62 websites will try to inject malicious code into your computer. ProxyConn blocks this at the "proxy". It also has several settings to let you fine tune its performance, privacy and anti-spyware features.
Below is the link to download the ProxyConn Web Accelerator for Windows 98 and higher. Do not use ProxyConn on Windows 95 because Windows 95 may fail to reboot after you install it. However, you should not run into problems with the higher versions of Windows. You will also need to make sure you have your ProxyConn ID in hand (obtained below), you are disconnected from the Internet and all of your Internet programs are closed when you begin the installation. If you have an old installation of ProxyConn on your computer, you do not need to remove it first, but you do need to use the new ProxyConn ID.

The ProxyConn ID is all capital letters with absolutely no numbers. This makes copying it down on paper easier. If you have a printer attached to your computer, you may want to print out this page after obtaining your Proxyconn ID and before you begin installing the software.
If you have to reinstall ProxyConn Web Accelerator and have lost your ID, just return to this page and enter the intormation above. It will retrieve existing ID's as well as create new ones.

After you install Proxyconn, if you can no longer get web pages or email, follow this procedure:
